Rachel Malthouse is 2 out of 2 for the series but both Laura Braunholtz and Emma Leigh are staying close. It’s also worth keeping an eye on Eden Isabella Huntley and Georgia Campbell as their names are down for the full series and it only takes a cold, injury or a calendar clash and the tables can turn. Still all to play for with four races left.

Emma Leigh followed up her Deadwater win with a cracking third at the Osprey Run and that gets her sitting top of the table. Helen Clark has registered a 3rd and 4th in category to sit in second. Claire Fairbairn has all the weapons to close the gap after a big win in the Osprey. Jane and Toosie likewise both having finished second in Osprey and Deadwater respectively.

The top two of Graham Malthouse and Andrew Armin are level after two rounds. Andrew took the shorter but more climby Deadwater Run when he made his move to the summit. Graham turned the table at the Osprey Run by using a high pace over a longer distance. This looks like an intriguing duel moving into the third round. Andrew Dancer and Doug Hall are within striking distance and both will be looking to stay in the hunt after the Wipeout. Simeon Griggs, Gavin Francis, Karl Smith, Spencer Booth, Scott Dewhurst, Joseph Robson and Paul Willis all place well by completing both opening races. The likes of Paul Tyrell and William Roy had strong individual races.

Andrew Dancer achieved category wins in both rounds so far and wasn’t far off the overall winners in those races so he is looking strong. As are Simeon Griggs. Gavin Francis and Scott Dewhurst who could easily overtake before the series is out.

Big respect to Spencer Booth who braved the cold in both races to now have a commanding lead. He has also entered the whole series and no needs to stay injury free and complete each race to drive the advantage home.

Both Tony and Derek turned up last night and are thrust to the top of the leaderboard for V60. Now can one of them keep going and get on the scoreboard for one of the remaining four races.
SUMMARY
Two rounds down and going into the Winter Wipeout with battles breaking out on all fronts. We said that big points would be easy to come by in the first two races. Well done to those who heeded the message. At the Wipeout there will be around 150 people and points go down to 100th place per gender so it’ll be harder to score big. If you’re playing the long game though then look further ahead and you might see a race that is well suited to you. The Lewis Burn Run is 11km with relatively little ascent and that means if you’re a short course high-pace runner then you have a golden opportunity. The Lonesome Pine Run is not that must further and then the Duergar is 10 miles. It’s all starting to get exciting in the Shadowlands Winter Trail Series.
